How Pillows Affect Your Quality Of Sleep

Tips for sleeping better

The right pillow should improve your quality of sleep.

Did you know that a comfortable, solid pillow will make a huge difference in your quality of sleep? A pillow that is too hard, too soft, or generally uncomfortable for you to sleep on may be the main cause of your restless nights. Take a look at these tips on how to choose the right pillow for a better quality sleep!

Thickness

Certain pillows are better based on your sleeping position, as the angle of your body changes in each position. Your pillow is there to keep your spine aligned while you sleep to avoid body pain or headaches. If you wake up with headaches or tension in your shoulders, back, and neck, your pillow is not the right size.

If you sleep on your front with your face down, you should choose a flatter, softer pillow. If you usually sleep on your back, you want a medium-thick pillow that supports your neck without pushing your head forward. Lastly, if you mainly sleep on your side, you want a thicker pillow that will support your neck.

Pillow Filling

In addition to thickness, you may want to consider a different pillow filling. There are many different pillow-filling options on the market, including down, wool, cotton, latex, and memory foam. Down filling is soft and breathable, but are overall less durable than other types of pillows. Wool and cotton are resistant to mold and dust mites, so either makes a good choice for those suffering from allergies. Latex is also hypoallergenic and is the firmest pillow option. These pillows are great for people who need a lot of support, as they are firm yet responsive to pressure. Memory foam pillows are very supportive and mold to the shape of your head and neck, so if you tend to move around while sleep it may not be your best option.
