How to Make the Most of an In-Store Mattress Test

Learn how to make the most of your in-store mattress test.

If you are preparing to buy a new mattress, it can be especially beneficial to conduct an in-store mattress test with the models you’re interested in. When mattress testing, you want to know how the bed will feel when you lie down each night, and you want to make sure the comfort level is what you prefer. What’s comfortable for one person may not be comfortable for you, so sometimes, an in-store test is the best way to determine what is best for your needs. To make the most of your in-store mattress test, remember the following tips.

Do Your Homework Before Your In-Store Mattress Test

All American Mattress employees will help you find the best mattress in our showroom, but it is important to know your options before you arrive. Create a checklist for your ideal mattress, and figure out what features are most important to you. Having an idea of what you want and need before shopping in-store can help you guide your shopping experience more effectively.

Ask These Questions Before Shopping

While you determine which mattress features you are looking for, consider the following:

  • Do you prefer a firm or soft mattress?
  • Is there a mattress brand you trust the most or have had the best experiences with?
  • What features can you live without? What features can you NOT live without? For instance, do you require a memory foam mattress?

If you sleep with a partner, you should test the mattress at the same time. This is the best way to determine that you are both comfortable on the mattress and both have enough space.

Take Your Mattress For a Test Drive

So how do you perform an in-store mattress test? First, we recommend lying down in the position in which you usually sleep and moving into different positions to make sure you’re content. Try to act as you would at home on your mattress.

As you lay down on the mattress, note where you feel pressure and adjust from there. For instance, if you’re a side sleeper, you will feel the most pressure on your hips when using a firm mattress. If you want a mattress with more give, search for a pillow top or contoured mattress. However, stomach sleepers may prefer a firm mattress to guarantee back support

Knowing what you want and being comfortable with testing out every part of a mattress can help you have a satisfying in-store mattress test.
