How To Get A Good Night’s Sleep When Suffering From Fall Allergies

Learn how to get a good night’s sleep when suffering from fall allergies.

Fall allergies can make sleeping difficult, as you may have a stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and an overall unpleasant feeling that doesn’t go away when you lie down in bed. In fact, one of the worst symptoms of allergies is poor sleep, which can result in feeling even more tired and low-energy during the day. Continue reading to learn a few tips on how to get a good night’s sleep when suffering from fall allergies!

Dust-proof

First, be sure to dust-proof your bedroom for a clean sleep environment. Pillows, especially ones stuffed with down, can collect pollen and dust. Carpets also harbor dust and pollen that may enter through your windows. When the fall season begins, it’s best to keep your windows closed and to start sweeping or vacuuming regularly. Also, be sure to replace or wash your pillows and pillowcases often, and don’t wear any outdoor clothes in bed.

Stay Inside

While you may be tempted to enjoy the fall weather, it’s important to stay indoors as much as possible when suffering from allergies. Even driving with the windows down can, unfortunately, allow more pollen and contaminants to cling to your skin, nose, and eyes. Keep your windows shut in your car and home, and remove your shoes and clothing when you get home to avoid spreading pollen.

Air Filter

On an exceptionally beautiful night, you may want to sleep with the window open to enjoy the lovely cool breeze. While you shouldn’t do this every night, there is a way to do so by minimizing allergens. For example, using a HEPA air filter in the bedroom can make a big difference in the allergen levels. Also, cover your pillows and bed with an extra sheet during the day to keep your sheets clean, then fold it up to reveal a clean bed and pillowcase.

Shower At Night

Showering at night is another helpful way of keeping yourself clean and free of allergens before sleep. A warm shower is not only great for removing any pollen in your hair or on your skin, but it’s also very relaxing and helps your mind and body prepare for sleep.
